There are times when a tooth just cannot be restored. This is usually due to extensive decay or a fracture of the tooth which involves the root. In these instances the doctor may determine that the tooth needs to be removed. If that is the case, the doctor will review the case with you and explain the procedure and answer any questions that you may have about the procedure. A local anesthetic will be given which will numb the area thoroughly. The doctor will test the area to make sure that there is no feeling before proceeding with the removal of the tooth. Generally a tooth will come out easily and without difficulty. At other times a badly broken down tooth may snap off during the removal process making the case more difficult. Previously root canaled teeth tend to break more easily that non-root canaled teeth.

While we make every effort to try to save teeth and preserve your smile, there are times when a tooth must come out. We will make every effort to ensure your comfort if it becomes necessary to remove any tooth.
